The 2011 Poker Hall of Fame inductions were announced at the end of October, with two people added to its prestigious list. There were a number of players nominated, and you’ll probably recognize a few of the ones that didn’t make it. For example, Scotty Nguyen and Huck Seed both missed the cut. They can always be nominated again and inducted in future years, however. In the meantime, they'll probably continue to contribute to world wide web poker.
Nominations and inductions are not a simple process. The Hall of Fame is overseen by the World Series of Poker, and they allow anyone to be nominated. The Governing Council of the Poker Hall of Fame picks ten of these nominations, and they are sent to 17 members of the poker media and eighteen living members of the Hall of Fame. Each voter gets ten points to distribute where they wish among the ten nominations. The two names that receive the most points are then inducted.
There is a list of criteria that nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame must meet. For example, nominees must have played consistently well over time, have the respect of their peers, and have played in some of the toughest games. If someone nominated isn’t actually a player of a poker download, they must have contributed to the overall growth and success of poker.
One of the inductees was Barry Greenstein, a PokerStars pro and ambassador. You might know him as the “Robin Hood of Poker” due to the fact he has donated a whopping $3 million (all won from poker) to charity in his lifetime. He possesses three WSOP bracelets and two World Poker Tour titles, and his total tournament winnings amounts to over $7 million.
